We at Phase 1 Sports believe that being able to play sports is a blessing and privilege, but maintaining your academics in the classroom takes first priority.
Every year hundreds of athletes are not eligible to receive scholarships due to not qualifying academically.
Our goal is to enhance students performance on the field, as well as to improve their abilities academically by giving them the resources and tools they need to develop them into a well-rounded athlete.
Phase 1 Sports will work along with Foundation 44 to ensure this goal is met and together we will offer programs that include:
NCAA Clearinghouse Workshops

Today, sports have become more competitive than ever.
Athletes are bigger, faster, and stronger creating a gap between athletes that are serious and those that are simply playing for fun. In order to excel, athletes must take additional steps to maximize their potential. Phase 1 Sports provides sports specific training that will give athletes the advantage.
Camps, Combines, and other events can be a great way to increase exposure. Phase 1 Sports has built a relationship with a selective number of companies. These companies have been proven to host credible, organized, and productive events. As an athlete you must recognize the fact that attending one of these events does not guarantee a scholarship, but it can play a major role. Many athletes, coaches, and parents believe that attending an event can have a negative impact on recruiting. In most cases that is not a fact. College coaches use these events to evaluate athletes that typically are already on their watch-list. These events serve as an opportunity for a coach to further evaluate athletes, or just have accurate testing numbers. If an athlete is not on a college coach's watch-list and that athlete has a very impressive performance, that can initiate more recruiting exposure. In that case we recommend that the athlete takes initiative in making sure college coaches are aware of their performance. Recommended events include, but are NOT limited to:
• Phase 1 Sports Football Combine
• Phase 1 Sports Skills Camp
• Nike Combine (open to all football players grades 9-11)
• Nike Camp (Invite Only)
• Scout Football Combine (Invite Only)
• Scout 7on7 Passing League Tournament
• Elite 11 QB Camp
• Shuman Football Camp
If there are other events that you are considering attending and would like Phase 1 to research the event feel free to submit information.
Michael Waters, founder of Phase 1 Sports attended the University of Nevada Las Vegas. While attending UNLV, Michael had the opportunity to play under the leadership of legendary head coach John Robinson. Following high school in Monrovia California a decision had to be made.
At a point where classmates were deciding on college or the street, Michael took the college route, simply to play football. “For me it wasn’t about college, it was about football” Michael recalls. As a senior in high school two colleges offered scholarships, however academically he was not eligible. A year later while attending junior college at Mount San Antonio College in Walnut California he began to witness many childhood friends making the wrong decisions.
They were turning to a life of drugs and gangs, which ultimately landed his best friend in prison serving a 19 year sentence. At that point he realized the role that sports played in his life. Once college was complete the mission started, to direct youth in a positive direction through Phase 1 Sports.
The mission of Phase 1 Sports is to encourage athletes of all ages to develop their full athletic and academic potential through resources and programs that are available. Phase 1 Sports, strives, to create a unique program in which athletes of all ages, abilities and experience can feel free to set high goals. In doing so they are taking the proper steps to reach those goals. Phase 1 provides a complete sports program that is challenging, rewarding, creative and respectful of each individual that participates.
Phase 1 Sports is dedicated to providing Student-Athletes with an opportunity to gain access to resources that normally would be out of reach. The experiences the students have while participating in this program also assists them in making the transition from high school to college. This will also allow them to develop life skills that will be transferable to any career in the future.
Evidence demonstrates that youth who are involved in sports generally have the potential to outperform non-athletic students by virtually every measure. This study, Champions of Change, found much evidence that learning in the sports field helps develop habits that will support other disciplines as well. Phase 1 Sports provides Student-Athletes with authentic learning experiences that engage their mind and body. Sports education helps students learn while enhancing creativity, self-discipline, confidence and the skills necessary to meet the challenges encountered during their lives.
Phase 1 Football has made the recruiting process that much easier. We are fully aware of the fact that recruiting services and national websites provide you with athletes’ names, stats, film, and other recruiting information. Our focus is to provide you with the information that makes recruiting those athletes simple. Along with name, school, combine numbers, and film we provide coaches with personal information that has proven to be very valuable in the recruiting process. All information on Phase 1 Football has been verified to assure accuracy. All testing results are from a nationally recognized camp/combine. All academic information has also been verified before being posted to athletes’ profile. All personal contact information has been provided by athlete to assure accuracy as well. Members will also have the ability to print profiles and TRANSCRIPTS of athletes to initiate the academic evaluation as well.
